Surabaya - Ijen Sulfur Lake

Image
After visiting the beyond awesome  Madakaripura Waterfall , we travelled from Bromo to Ijen by car. Took us around 6hours to reach Ijen @.@ Arrived and checked in to Arabika Homestay. It was around 7 at night and the surrounding is so dark. Arabika Homestay, without doubt, the place is surrounded by coffee bean plantations! We slept around 10pm that night and being wake up by the guide at 12am in the midnight @.@ Morning call by knocking the hostel door again... By 1am, we are ready at the starting point to hike up to Kawah Ijen. We spent 2hours for the 3km distance, due to the super low temperature and steep path @.@ We hike in dark, with the help of our headlamps :) From Wikipedia: "West of Gunung Merapi is the Ijen volcano which has a one-kilometer-wide turquoise-colour acid crater lake. The lake is the site of a labor-intensive sulfur mining operation, in which sulfur-laden baskets are carried by hand from the crater floor." We are going for the...

Surabaya - Madakaripura Waterfall

Image
After a full-with-surprised-morning at Mount Bromo , we had our breakfast at hotel and then checked out from our room. Our next stop is Madakaripura Waterfall (what a long name =.=). Around 1.5hours travel time spent from Hotel Bromo Permai to Madakaripura Waterfall by car. Greeted by this gentleman :P Meeting with our guide and started our hike to the waterfall :)   Spotted the waterfall far far away !! After around half an hour walk on the land and cross some water, we stopped by halfway to have some rest and put on our rain coats. Yes, we bring along disposable rain coats! Why we need that? Because we are entering a world with magical tiny raindrops!! Omg! I was stunned at the time we are here! Tiny water drops from the cliff overgrown with plants !!! Fall in love with the place immediately lol :p The water drop is similar to those big fans with water mist outside mamak stalls lol if you can’t imagine. After crossing the “raining part”...

Surabaya - Crater of Mount Bromo!!!

Image
Click here  for previous entry. When the sky turned bright, we depart to Mount Bromo, yes, we are going to hike up to the crater!!!  This is our little jeep :)   Mount Bromo is in front of us!! The sun is shining on top of us, but we still felt cold due to the chilly breeze. Distance from the car park area to the crater is not too far, we spent around 1.5hours going up and down. “Public transport” available here :P You can choose to reach the crater by foot or by horse. Trip by horse costs around 50k Rupiah, depends on how you bargain on the price. Who won’t fall in love with this place? You would be amazed by the magnificent mountains view where you would find out that you are actually surrounded by mountains 360 ° . The temple spotted yesterday evening !! The small little blocks far far away in this photo are the jeeps that brought visitors here, then is the temple and the yellow blocks are the staircases tha...

Surabaya - Sunrise at Mount Bromo (Penanjakan View Point)

Image
3am in the morning, our guide gave us a morning call by knocking on our hotel room…freaking cold @.@ After some preparation, we wrapped ourselves under thick sweaters and stepped out of the room. Hopped onto a little jeep and started our journey to Penanjakan view point :) after around half an hour ride on the jeep, we reached the car park…spent another 45minutes hike up to the view point. The distance is nothing if compared to the cold weather, estimated temperature is less than 10°C (still consider critical for Malaysian like us lol). Reached Penanjakan view point around 5am, 2700++m above sea level, woohoo :) Breaking dawn… wait patiently for the sunrise. There are quite a lot of people up there, mainly because of weekend? We had a good weather that morning. Oh, is the moon up there, not the sun, haha. This is what we waiting for… the first ray of sunlight on the volcanoes!! Rays of light through the clouds, amazing view :) The sun...

Surabaya - One Step Closer to Mount Bromo

After checked in to our room at Hotel Bromo Permai 1, our guide brought us to have a walk around. We are very shocked to realize that we are actually facing the very beautiful Mount Bromo!!!! Our hotel is just located beside, omg!! Felt so excited :P We walked out from out hotel and just followed this small path..so surprised with what we saw :) being amazed for so many times in a day lol :P Walking along the small path…Mount Bromo is on our right hand side… While local’s cozy small hut is on our left hand side… ask us how not to love this place, so peaceful and with superb view :) Cabbage cabbage and cabbage again :P  The volcano located in the middle with white smoke is Mount Bromo ^^ while the Mount Semeru is on the left and Mount Batok is on the right. Mount Semeru is a super active volcano, Mount Bromo is an active volcano and Mount Batok is a dead volcano :) Volcanoes family :P  The unblocked view made us reluctant t...
