This is the third time I participated in an international marathon. Chombueng Marathon, we came across this event from a group of avid Thai runners on the trip to River Kwai Int. Half Marathon in 2015. 15 January 2017, I completed my first overseas 42.195km in the Chombueng Marathon happening at Ratchaburi province. It was the coolest event I’ve ever been to, with its chilly temperature at ground surrounded with mountains. Bib collection at Rajabhat University Chom Bueng The race itself is a long wait after all. The registration took place four months prior to the event. This year the Full Marathon runners were selected through balloting. This is my third event volunteering after Nike WeRunKL (Year 2010) and SCKLM (Year 2013). This round, my assigned role is pre-event set up crew and I am one of three members alloted in the earliest shift of 1pm. Our task in the afternoon is simple, to help setting up the course flags and barrier jackets along the starting / finishing lane. Stay healthy. Keep running :) We managed to complete the work at 6pm. In general we got four types of flags and jackets presented on the route, the Asics City Relay event brand, Spectrum Worldwide event organizer brand, Blue and Black Asics sponsors flags. Everything was nicely dressed up and it was an accomplishment for the day as we endured working under the scorching hot weather for hours. Rows of sponsor flags. Everyone knows that completing a 42.195 km full marathon isn’t an easy feat. To go beyond the distance, I have decided to participate in the Route 68 challenge 50 km category. This April 2016, it is the second edition of the challenge. Considering myself as a newbie to the ultramarathon, we decided to reach to the race site as early as 5am using the bus service arranged by organizer. To prepare myself in endurance running, I have engaged myself in functional training classes (by Country Club Fitness ) and do hiking / running around KL parks at least three days weekly. The race venue on 10 April 2016 Mandatory item (blinker, mobile, hydration belt and headlamp) display (and reflective vest) Back at the race site, after performing our mandatory item check, the 50 km category race flagged off at 7am. For safety purpose, we runners had to keep the blinkers and headlamp on, together with the reflective vest put on in the first hour of race. At First 10 km, we passed by two...

This post marked the 100th post for Kanghuekia! Congrats to us LOL :) Standard Charactered KL Marathon (SCKLM) 2015 had to be cancelled due to the weather conditions. Pollutant index kept increasing during last 2 days and the haze condition is not safe for us to run. Hazy KL.. The event organizer had to cancel the run one day before the race day and participants can still go to Dataran Merdeka to collect their entitlements from 6am to 12pm, Sunday (4 th October 2015). We are there too, to collect our finisher tee and medal. The crowd at Dataran Merdeka is more than expected. People are busy taking photos at the finishing line after collecting their entitlements. At last, I am at the venue of the 34th edition of River Kwai International Half Marathon 2015, River Kwai Village Hotel. After an approximate 6 hours train ride from Bangkok and 20 mins motorbike riding from our Star Hill River Kwai hotel, we reached safely at the venue at 520am. It was raining on the Sunday morning and we felt uncomfortable with the wetness in body, but this doesn’t wash away the spirit of running on one of the most scenic route in Thailand. I’ve missed it last year and definitely not this time.
