Gunung Irau - Mossy Forest
Gunung Irau, the 9th
highest mountain in Peninsula Malaysia. It is situated in Brinchang town of
Cameron Highlands. We have planned the Irau hike for almost half a year since everyone
is busy with work after out of college.
The hiking was planned
on date 15th June 2013. A group of 6 departed from Kuala Lumpur at
1am and reached the Brinchang town at 6am. After some light breakfast in a Malay
restaurant, we headed to the entrance of Gunung Irau. The driving experience in
Cameroon Highlands was different and way challenging than I had in previous hike
indeed.
Welcome !!!
We started the hike at
7am. Everyone was soon fall in love with the place. Nothing beats the strong
breeze and cool air in a morning. The trail was fairly easy at first, everyone
was so excited of snapping photos around.
We entered the mossy forest at last.
Everything in the forest is wet, muddy, and slippery. All of us had to be extra
cautious checking on muddy traps and slippery grass roots. Besides, due to low
oxygen in air (high elevation of 6000 ft), we took more rest during the hike.
Mossy forest !
Dare to fall!!
The ascending to the
peak took us about 4 hours. Credit to my friends whom have not been working out
for a long period yet managed to keep up with us. We have brought a small
cooking set for maggie and milo preparation. The food is the best medicine
after 4 hours grueling in the forest. After 30 minutes rest, we decided to leave
early as we noticed a hiking group of more than 40 peoples were reaching the
peak group by group.
Stay Strong!
Cooking time.
Finally
it’s glad to see everyone survived the Gunung Irau hike and none of us get
wounded or injured. The overall hike was approximately 8 hours. For me, the
mossy forest is a perfect painted green, misty yet mysterious forest blessed
with amazing kinds of flora. What’s more, It’s in my homeland Malaysia!
Before the hike!
After!!! (not so bad after all)
Not to be missed!
Awesome view from above! ^^
Group photo at the entrance point :)
How to reach there? Follow direction of Sungai Palas Boh Tea Plantation, before you reach the tea plantation, you would notice a "Gunung Irau" signboard on your left, just follow the signboard and you would be there. Due to the poor condition of the road, be extra careful when driving there.
