Beijing - A Royal Park Visit to Summer Palace (颐和园)

Good morning Beijing.

Kicked start the day with some home-made energetic breakfast at the homestay and off we go to our destination of the day, Summer Palace (颐和园). Breakfast is very important since we are going to consume lots of energy walking around Summer Palace. Or it would be more appropriate if we said that travelling in Beijing or China, food and water is very important to ensure your body’s stamina since almost all tourist spots are HUGE in space, which made you felt like never-ending walking LOL.

It was a breezy autumn morning :)

Followed the signboard to get to the entrance.

Bought our tickets at the main entrance and here we go!

Recommended to buy a map here since the place is too big and lack of direction board in the palace.

Summer Palace is the biggest royal garden in China. It is a luxurious royal garden for royal families to rest and have their “holiday”. In the end of the Qing Dynasty, the garden has become main residence for the royal members.

The garden is so big that there are lake, garden, palace and hill! Summer Palace is centred around Longevity Hill (万寿山) and KunMing Lake (昆明湖). Both of them are man-made and “bonding” to each other since excavated soil from KunMing Lake was used to build Longevity Hill.

KunMing Lake.

Tower of Buddhist Incense (佛香阁) .

The Long Corridor is 728-metre long and it is decorated with artistic painting.

The roof.

Persimmon tree again!

Never get boring with all these unique structure!

TingLiGuan (听鹂馆) was built by the emperor QianLong (乾隆) to celebrate his mother's birthday in year 1750. The theater was later become a place to watch Peking Opera and holding banquets for CiXi (慈禧太后), relatives of emperor and others. Now the restaurant is specialising in imperial court cuisine and famous for receiving guests like leaders from other countries.

We didn't dine here since the portion for imperial court cuisine is not small at all and most importantly, the price is not cheap! Anyway, we think that is is worth trying if you are interested since it is not easy to find imperial court cuisine and you get to dine at such a special place!!!

Still have to settle our lunch right...so we went to a food court near by TingLiGuan LOL. Ordered some dumplings , out of expectation, taste very good!

The noodles we ordered was quite dissapointing... We noticed a lots of tourist ordered this, especially locals. So we just followed the crowd... Ended up it was a bad decision... Only some plain noodle, sliced cucumber and fermented bean paste.

After lunch, we continued our way exploring Summer Palace.

Autumn :)

View that always appeared in drama :P

After that, we bought ticket for boat ride to SuZhou Street (苏州街). We were holding basic entrance ticket, which did not include the boat ride.

The boat we ride is something like this!

Here we are, SuZhou Street (苏州街).

Felt like in a movie scene!

好想看轻功水上飘~

After that, we exit via the entrance near to SuZhou Street. Summer Palace is too wide that there are many different routes for you to choose to tour around. Some might choose to go up to Longevity Hill while some might choose to have a boat ride around KunMing Lake.

For us, you should not miss SuZhou Street (苏州街) !!! Highly recommended.

Tips: Take a boat ride, to rest your legs :)
