Laos - Luang Prabang - Things To Do Besides KwangSi Waterfall
Hahaha, the title told the whole story :P We want for a leisure trip and thus we chose Nong Khiaw and
give up the most famous and must-go KwangSi Waterfall :P We keep it for our
next visit, we shall meet soon :P
There are still quite
a lot of stuff to explore at Luang Prabang :)
1. Phou si Hill
Phou si hill, located
in the city centre, just next to the night market and Wat Mai. A 15-minute walk
brought us to the peak with fantastic view over the whole Luang Prabang city as
well as Mekong River! Don’t be scared with the “hill” since the path is well-managed
and with proper staircase, not too difficult to go up.
Entrance fee: 20,000
kip per person.
The way up is well-maintained and built out of proper staircases.
View from the peak.
It is recommended to visit Phou Si Hill in the evening, since the night market is located next to it, after hiking can straight away hunt for food at the night market :P
2. Night market
The best place to buy all souvenirs that you want. There are quite a lot of stalls here but generally the items sold are all the same. For examples, local made scarfs, shirts, pants, paintings, keychain, fridge magnet, handicrafts, lantern and others. One of the attractive stuff sold here is home-made alcohol with scorpion or cobra dipped inside.
We arrived quite early where they are still setting up their booth LOL. Yet, this eye-catching homemade alcohol drink attracts quite a number of tourists to stop-by.
Fruit shake is one of the popular item here.
3. Bamboo Bridge
Bamboo bridge, a
temporary bridge that only last around 6months in a year, the bridge would be
“destroyed” by the river when raining season comes. That’s why a fee is
required to cross the bridge since they need fund to build a new bamboo bridge
after the previous one was ruined. We are quite lucky to be able to cross the
bridge since it was beginning of raining season when we were there :P
The bamboo bridge.
Dyen Sabai, one of the famous Laos restaurant here, is located opposite the river.
Crossing fee: 5,000 kip per person (keep the ticket so that you not need to pay again when you want to cross back)
4. Witness the alms
giving
We wake up early in
the morning and walked from our hotel to witness the giving activity by the
locals to the monk. Some tourists joined the giving ceremony too, but please be
more careful with the food that offered to the monks. We noticed that some gave
not-suitable food to the monks but the good side is the monks would offer that
food given to local kids that already stand-by there to receive the “rejected
food” LOL.
Please respect the monks and do not take photo of them.
