River Kwai - From Bangkok to Nam Tok by Train
Click HERE for the full itinerary.
We landed at
Bangkok in the late evening, then we took a cab to Thonburi.
We stayed one
night at Riski Apartment, or more commonly being known as Wasit Apartment by
locals. The guest house is just normal, but it is clean and with an attached
bathroom.
Riski Apartment.
Hidden in a residential area.
Why Thonburi but not any other places around Bangkok? This is because we are going to take a train to River Kwai on the next day! Thonburi is the place where the train station located and we chose a guest house which is within walking distance to the train station. Smart traveller :P
Thonburi station :)
Before we reached Thonburi station, we passed-by a "train market"!
The market is really just next to the train railway. Too bad we didn't meet a train passing by here.
Haha, but we managed to spend some time in the market :)
How to go to
River Kwai from Bangkok:
By car – around
2.5hours.
By train – around
6hours!
We chose to
travel by train! Since how often we got the chance to travel by train, to
explore out skirt of Thailand and the most important one is we got the chance
to pass through the death railway in train!
Check the train timetable HERE.
Besides, travel
by train is the most economic way! The train ticket costs us 100Baht (for one
person) one way!
We are glad that
we chose to travel by train! There are locals selling hot food, cold drinks and
snack all the way! We didn’t have chance to feel hungry at all, LOL. The train
stopped for quite some time at few stations, so we got to get down from the
train and buy food from stalls along the platform too :)
Nice weather. While waiting for our train to arrive :)
The very old-school bell :P
Train is coming!
Interior of the train :P
No air-conditioner, with fan and opened-window :)
There are racks above the seats for you to put your luggage.
Free seating. That's why all seats beside the windows are being occupied first.
Thai rice noodles we bought on the train. For around 20Baht?!
We are here... Starting the historical Thai-Burma Railway station.
We passed by Kanchanaburi too! But we didn't get down here.
The train is approaching The Bridge over the River Kwai...
And here we are! We are on the Bridge over the River Kwai now!
We waved to people standing next to the railway, and they waved to us :P
We travelled to
River Kwai for River Kwai International Half Marathon, locals that sit next to
us are travelling to the same place, having the same purpose like us too! So
they actually shared with us a lot of things about River Kwai as well as
marathon in Thailand.
Heading to...
Almost everyone in the train took out their camera or phone when the train reached here!
We wondered what happened until locals sat next to us told us that here is the most beautiful place throughout the whole train journey!
Yes, overlooking a beautiful resort by the river :)
The train's position was quite high at that moment, it was quite scary to look down LOL :P
After that, the train passed through a "rock wall". We were told that originally it was a mountain but being "break through" to give way to the train!
After around
6hours, we reached NamTok station, which is the last station. Then we hopped
onto a tuk-tuk to bring us to our hotel.
Nam Tok station :)
Time to get down from the train and rest in our hotel LOL. Thanks for the great experience!
Stay tune for the next post since we are going to post about our floating house in River Kwai!!!
