River Kwai - Where to Stay
After a long train journey, we arrived at Nam Tok, hopped onto a tuk-tuk and reached our
hotel. The hotel we booked is Star Hill River Kwai Resort.
We spent some time
survey which hotel or resort to stay at River Kwai, since there are quite alot
choices and not to forget our main purpose of visiting River Kwai is for the
River Kwai International Half Marathon.
Initially, we
planned to stay at River Kwai Village Hotel since the marathon was held there.
We can just walk out from our hotel room and get to the starting line on the
race day. However, the rooms are sold out few months before the race!!!!
River Kwai Village Hotel
Pros:
-Not need to worry about transportation from hotel to the race venue, since starting and finishing line are at the hotel.
Cons:
-Rooms sold out fast, act fast!
-Room rate quite high.
Entrance of River Kwai Village Hotel and our rented motorbike :P
The long green path entering the hotel :)
Mystery hidden gem at River Kwai Village Hotel :)
In the end, we
decided to stay at Star Hill River Kwai Resort, which is around 10km+ away from
River Kwai Village Hotel.

Star Hill River Kwai Resort
Pros:
-Cheaper room
rate.
-Friendly staff.
Star Hill is a cozy and creative place, the area is not too big and i think we
met all their workers during our 2 nights stay over there.
-Good service.
They helped us in renting a motorbike and sent us to bus station in town for
free after we checked out from the resort.
-All in one
package. They provide body massage and water activity package for their
residence.
-A quiet and
peaceful place. Great for relaxing and leisure trip!
Cons:
-A bit far from
town. In order to reach Star Hill, you have to drive on a country small road
which is still under construction! During our stay on September 2015, the
cement road was built just until the main entrance of the resort! There is no
proper road after the main entrance of the resort, only bumpy rocky road which
leads us into a jungle LOL! We almost gone missing in the jungle!
-A bit far from
River Kwai Village Hotel LOL. Our main purpose is to take part in River KwaiInternational Half Marathon, so we had to depart early in the morning in order
to reach there on time. It was raining heavily that morning...so just imagine
both of us are on a scooter, wearing poncho and kept laughing at our silliness
:P We were so terrible that morning! At that moment, we wished that we are in a
car instead of a motor LOL, but only at that moment, still think that it is
more fun to explore River Kwai on motor bike :P
Buggy ride! Upon arrival, the tuk-tuk driver dropped us at the main entrance and the resort's staff sent us to lobby for check-in using this pink buggy!
Our room! It is a floating house! On the river!!!! Hahahahaha, you can feel the wave if the water is flowing fast LOL :P But don't worry, the room is quite stable, we didn't feel dizzy at all throughout our 2 nights stay over there :)
Overlooking the river from our room :)
Our room is R105, we enjoyed do nothing but lazying on the chairs, biting peanuts, looking at the river LOL :P
Water activities package provided by the resort.
The swimming pool! Overlooking endless mountains and river :)
The dining area, so pinkish!
Buffet dinner at the resort (Charges applied, 250 Baht per person).
Breakfast by the river!
We spent 3days 2nights at Star Hill River Kwai Resort, on the first day, there are quite a lot of residents in the resort and majority of them came there for River Kwai International Half Marathon too!
We stayed one more day after the race and we think we are the only guests that left in the resort LOL :P The whole area was so quiet and we occupied the whole swimming pool :P
The staff asked whether we want our breakfast to be served to our room or not, haha, of course we said OK, the offer is too good to reject!
We had American style breakfast by the Asian river :P

We loved Star Hill River Kwai Resort, although the distance is abit far from town. By the way, we
would like to recommend another resort next to Star Hill, which is Good View
River Kwai Resort. Good View is slightly closer to town if compared with Star
Hill.
Good View River kwai Resort
Pros:
-Slightly closer
to town.
-Creative and
cozy surrounding! A lot of photogenic scene here!
Cons:
We are not sure since
we not staying here! We just passed by and attracted by the funny cozy room :p
The greenery view :)
The garden :)
One of the photogenic scene here :)
The cozy little hut! It is a real guest room where there is somebody staying inside LOL :P
Overlooking the river and the floating house. By visual comparison, floating house at Star Hill looked better :)
Spotted a snoopy? Hehe :P
That's all from us for accommodation in River Kwai. River Kwai is such a good place for mind relaxing trip :P We talked to the locals and get to know that River Kwai is one of the most favourite weekend getaway place for the locals, just like Cameron Highland in Malaysia maybe?!
