Kanchanaburi - Bridge over the River Kwai

After spending three days two nights at SaiYok (River Kwai) for the RKIHM 2015, we back to Kanchanaburi town. Commuting to the town is easy with an hour bus ride from the bus station at SaiYok. The journey passed by entrances to Erawan National Park and Tiger Temple.

Erawan National Park is well known for its seven-tiered waterfall and it is also recognized as one of the most beautiful national parks in Thailand. For the infamous Tiger Temple, it was raided and forced to shut down early this year for animal mistreatment and keeping them without permit.

It was raining the time we reached Kanchanaburi. Hopped onto a tuk-tuk and we reached our guesthouse at Kanchanaburi, Chitanun Guest House. A non air-cond and non hot shower room costs us 250Baht. It is a good deal! Since it was raining season, the weather at night is not too hot, a fan room is enough for us :)

For fan room, only 250Baht per night, for air-cond room with hot shower and TV, costs 600Baht per night.

We like the guest house's garden concept :)

Surrounded by trees :)

Our simple room for 1night stay,

The rain has stopped and we able to sneak out some time bicycling around the town and visited the Death Railway built by Prisoner of War (POW) in WWII. Gazing at the rail structure spanning across River Kwai and linkages connecting all its way to Burma. It was hard to imagine that the 415km railway project was made possible in 1940s with all restrictions of old mechanical tools, tight schedule and extremely difficult working conditions. In reality, human ego prevails and tens of thousands of lives are lost during the construction. We were blessed to have witnessed the most vulnerable and emotional message engraved on every cemetery foot stone at the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, written by a father to his loving son, wife to husband, grandson to his grandparents etc.

Our rented bicycle :) 50Baht per bike for 1day.

The Bridge over River Kwai.

We had a leisure walk on the bridge, which is a railway too.

The original bridge was boomed by Allied Forces in year 1944. Three sections of the bridge were destroyed and current one was re-built.

Side platforms were built as viewpoint and for avoiding coming train. Visitors are allowed to walk on the railway by foot.
During our train journey to Nam Tok, we were in the train and passed by Bridge over The River Kwai! Now, we are standing at the side platform, waiting the train to pass by us LOL :)

View from the bridge, there is a Guan Yin temple built beside the river.

Opposite to the temple is a floating restaurant!
