Image
Time to talk about food again :P What to eat at Kanchanaburi  ? We would like to talk about 2 restaurants that we like throughout out short stay at Kanchanaburi. No. 1: Blue Rice Restaurant (Apple's Retreat) I believe that this restaurant would appear on your screen if you key in "What to eat at Kanchanaburi" in your Google search tab :P  Blue Rice Restaurant is a restaurant under Apple's Retreat, which is a guest house and travel service provider. Not only the food, this place is famous with cooking class provided too! It is not exaggerate to say that Apple's Retreat is having the best cooking class in Kanchanaburi which covers Traditional Thai and organic cookery workshop! One cooking course is 1550Baht, including ingredients and recipes book. The course started with local market visit and you get to learn 4 dished throughout the course!  Too bad that we did not have enough time to join the class, for more information, can click HERE .

Kanchanaburi - Bridge over the River Kwai

Image
After spending three days two nights at SaiYok (River Kwai) for the RKIHM 2015 , we back to Kanchanaburi town. Commuting to the town is easy with an hour bus ride from the bus station at SaiYok. The journey passed by entrances to Erawan National Park and Tiger Temple.  Erawan National Park is well known for its seven-tiered waterfall and it is also recognized as one of the most beautiful national parks in Thailand. For the infamous Tiger Temple, it was raided and forced to shut down early this year for animal mistreatment and keeping them without permit. It was raining the time we reached Kanchanaburi. Hopped onto a tuk-tuk and we reached our guesthouse at Kanchanaburi, Chitanun Guest House. A non air-cond and non hot shower room costs us 250Baht. It is a good deal! Since it was raining season, the weather at night is not too hot, a fan room is enough for us :) Tuk- tuk at Kanchanaburi bus station. Entrance of Chitanun Guest House. For fan room, only 250Baht per

River Kwai - Where to Eat :)

River Kwai is a small town but it is not difficult to look for food. Besides hawker stalls along the street, we would like to recommend one restaurant that we can’t even pronounce its name :P The restaurant situated along the main street in town, it is at the junction where we turned into the small road leading to Star Hill River Kwai Resort. It is a 2-storey building, with quite outstanding architectural, so it is quite easy to be spotted. The restaurant name :) We had our dinner facing this awesome view :) Display of some tropical fruits and vege in the restaurant. One of the reason we would like to recommend this restaurant is because of the friendly staff here. They can hardly speak in English but they tried their best to explain to us on whats shown on the menu. Ended up we ordered 3 best dish recommended by the staff for just 2 of us :) Boiled fish ball and fish slices with Thai sauce. The sauce is so SPICY!!!! Clear soup with mushro

River Kwai - Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum

Image
After  River Kwai International Half Marathon , we had a short nap in our hotel. In the evening, we hopped onto our rented motorbike and departing to one of the must-visit place in River Kwai, which is Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum. It is quite easy to go to Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum, since there is only one main road in River Kwai, just a straight road and there is signboard directs you there.  Found this special place while on the way to Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum.  Runners of River Kwai International Half Marathon run past this place in the morning too. It is actually a pond overlooking mountain valleys!   Signboard along the road.   FromWikipedia: Hellfire Pass is known as "Konyu Cutting" in Japanese. It is the name of a railway cutting on the former Burma Death Railway in Thailand which was built by forced labours and Allied prisoners of war during World War II.  The museum was built and maintained by the Australian government.
