Laos - Luang Prabang - Where To Eat

Image
Sa-Bai-Dee~ We always have fun to look around hawker stalls and restaurant when we travel before decide what to eat. Here we summarized food we took throughout our stay at Luang Prabang and we think they are all good! 1. Noodles stall at night market Our very first meal at Luang Prabang was noodles from a small stall at night market, before we made our way up to Phou Si Hill. Expenses: 17,000 kip. A small and simple stall where we sit together with local kids and had our meal :) Our noodles. 2. Dyen Sabai Bar and Restaurant We crossed the Bamboo bridge and had our dinner at Dyen Sabai restaurant. The restaurant's environment is so good that we ended up spent few hours there :P Expenses: 120,000 kip. Laos beer is a must-try :) Middle: Bamboo shoot with shredded pork swerved with rice cracker (45,000 kip). Right: Vegetarian Platter which consists of Mekong seaweed, steamed vegetable, eggplant dip, garlic mushroom, tomato dip serv

Laos - Luang Prabang - Stay @ Villa Suan Maak

Image
There are a lot of budget hotel or guest house around Luang Prabang. We searched through Agoda and decided to book Villa Suan Maak as our first day stay. Review of this villa is quite good, with reasonable price and breakfast included LOL. We are paying around RM52 for one night stay, and the breakfast served the next day worth the price we paid! The room was clean, with attached bathroom and hot shower. The entrance. Dining area and reception. Rooms. Just beside the dining area. Our typical Laos breakfast :P Baguette served with omelette or scrambled egg, strawberry jam, butter, fruits and Laos coffee. The only bad thing of staying here is walking distance to town is around 10-15mins. Besides, there is no much choices of food around this area. But it's OK since we loitered around night market area almost everynight at Luang Prabang LOL.

Laos - Luang Prabang - Things To Do Besides KwangSi Waterfall

Image
Hahaha, the title told the whole story :P We want for a leisure trip and thus we chose Nong Khiaw and give up the most famous and must-go KwangSi Waterfall :P We keep it for our next visit, we shall meet soon :P There are still quite a lot of stuff to explore at Luang Prabang :) 1. Phou si Hill Phou si hill, located in the city centre, just next to the night market and Wat Mai. A 15-minute walk brought us to the peak with fantastic view over the whole Luang Prabang city as well as Mekong River! Don’t be scared with the “hill” since the path is well-managed and with proper staircase, not too difficult to go up. Entrance fee: 20,000 kip per person. The way up is well-maintained and built out of proper staircases. View from the peak. It is recommended to visit Phou Si Hill in the evening, since the night market is located next to it, after hiking can straight away hunt for food at the night market :P 2. Night market The best place to buy a

Laos - Luang Prabang Travel Tips

Image
Sa-bai-dee :) We would like to share some tips about travelling to Luang Prabang, Laos based on our own experience :) No.1 Kip Laos is using “kip”, but Thai Baht is commonly being accepted here as well. For Malaysian, you can bring along Thai Baht or USD and exchange at money changer in Laos. The rate we got is 1 USD for 8300 kip and 1 Baht for 246 kip. Based on our experience, expenses in Laos would be higher than in Thailand, based on price of food and snack. No.2 Convenient store There is no 7-eleven at Luang Prabang!!!!!! We not sure whether 7-eleven exists at Vientiane or not, but we cannot find any at Luang Prabang! There are only mini stores around the town and we spotted few pharmacies. Good thing is basic things like drinking water can be purchased easily from the mini stores (5,000kip for 1.5litres). Bad thing is there is very limited choice for snack like biscuit or bread from the mini stores and the price is not cheap at all. Most of the biscuits

Laos - Luang Prabang & Nong Khiaw 5D4N Itinerary 2017 - In Less Than Rm650 Per Pax!!!

ສະບາຍດີ Sa-bai-dee :) Selamat Hari Raya! Thanks to Raya holidays, and thanks to Air Asia, our last minute decision to fly over Luang Prabang, Laos could be achieved!!! Now everyone can fly LOL. We flied to Luang Prabang and decided to explore Nong Khiaw as well which is around 4hrs bus ride from Luang Prabang. This is our very first time to step on land of Laos, so excited to explore Laos and get confused with Kip, hahaha. “Kip” is the official currency in Laos, but Thai Baht is commonly being accepted by the locals as well. However, based on our experience, it is more worth to spend using Kip instead of Baht. You can choose to bring along US D or Thai Baht and exchange for Kip at Laos. There is money changer service at Luang Prabang Airport, but we noticed that the rate is slightly higher than those money changers available in town. The big value made us confused at first :P Our leisure itinerary as below :P Day 1 Kuala Lumpur – KLIA 2 – Luang Pra

Journey to the Fortune Island, Gone Yet Not Forgotten (March 2017)

Image
February 2017, I returned to the Land of the Philippines. With the same purpose, this time I am spending my six weeks working stay at Balanga city. Way to Fortune Island Genesis Bus Terminal Bataan In my forth week of stay, I had a chance to go out of the province and visited Fortune Island in Nasugbu, Batangas. Thanks to invitation from Belle, a friend met during our Mount Pinatubo hiking trip three years back. We arrived at Buendia bus terminal at 0300 on Saturday. There was a total of seven of us, Arvee, Rachel, Ri, Cindy, Ruth, Belle and I. As there is no clean water supply and electricity provided in island, each of us grabbed a 4L of Absolute drinking water at 7-Eleven before leaving for Nasugbu. The journey took approximately two hours. On arrival, a tricycle driver offered to arrange the round trip transportation to get to the Island and we agreed on. Loaded up at Nasugbu Wet Market Charging area provided before departure to Island Finally, we were on o

Hiking at Mount Samat & Shrine of Valor

Image
When it comes to the most popular weekend getaway in Bataan, a visit to Mount Samat is a must. Commuting from Balanga city, one can hop on the jeepney heading to Bagac at Balanga terminal and simply tell the driver “Mount Samat”. In 20 minutes’ time, you will be at the jumpoff point. At the foot of the Memorial Cross  Bataan Bus Terminal From the starting point, it is a 6km distance to the top of Mount Samat. Most visitors will usually have their private vehicle or hire a tricycle at foot of the hill. Online sources had it said that a single trip usually cost 100 PHP per pax and higher, with minimum of two passengers required for each trip. There were also some real good cyclists in the lovely morning. En route The well conditioned road. After an hour and 15 minutes of walking, I am at the summit and greeted by the 92-metre high Shrine of Valor. Better known as the Dambana ng Kagitingan, the Memorial Cross was erected in year 1966 in memory of the Filipin
