Brooks Kuantan Half Marathon 2014

Amazing month of May.

I have completed the 21km Broooks Kuantan Half Marathon, just 2 weeks after the successful hiking in Majestic Mount Kinabalu Sabah. The official result timing for the run is 2 hour 26 minutes. It was my second competitive run of the year, and the result had turned out to be better than expected.

The Brooks Kuantan registration had started even before the Chinese New Year in the early month of Jan. My brothers, cousin and I were able to get together in the CNY and registered for the 21km run. The pricing for normal period is rm70 with additional rm3 online processing fee.

10th May, we’ve reached a day earlier to collect the race kit at Teruntum Mini Zoo. It was our first time here. The mini zoo is located beside the popular Teluk Cempedak Beach. Many veteran runners were spotted in the Saturday afternoon greeting their old mates. The official sponsors Brooks and 2XU were having their booths for sports item as well.

The next morning, we reached the same destination as early as 5am. The car parks provided was limited as we have to park our vehicle by the main road, some distances away from the starting point. At 0605, the race started in dark.

First, It was a long straight road for about 4 kilometres before taking a left into Tanjung Lumpur fishing village. The runners were enjoying the beauty of sunrise crossing over the Kuantan River. Next, after an U-turn, we were heading back to the town, passing by the Salted Fish Street, Jalan Wong Ah Jang, Berjaya Megamall, the golden palace of Sultan of Pahang, before making way back to the beach.

During the run, the runners had to make few dangerous road crossings with running cars besides. This was painful as it posed a significant risk to all the runners. Everyone had to cross the roads while keeping an eye out for the incoming vehicle from behind. The organizers will have to work out an alternative race route and implement better control measures in order to give way to more runners to enjoy the run in the panoramic Kuantan town.
