Penang - Chew Jetty & Gurney Drive Food Court

Asam laksa! Here we come! We departed from KL and just like what others normally do, we stopped by Ipoh to have our breakfast. We had dim sum breakfast at Foh San Restaurant that morning. Do expect crowd over there especially during weekend and public holiday! It is so hard to find a seat! Anywhere, you can choose to tapau (carry away) dim sum at the carry-away session next to the main entrance in order to skip the crowd!

Penang bridge!

Once we reached Penang, we headed to Georgetown and looked for our hotel, Armenian Street Heritage Hotel. We booked a family room for 4-person for 2 nights, the bathroom is clean, the room is spacious and well-equipped. The best thing is strategic location of this hotel! Famous mural wall arts are all within walking distance from here and the irresistible Penang Road cendol is less than 15minutes drive form here too!

View from our room. Overlooking Komtar.

After some rest in the hotel, we walked to Chew Jetty to kick start of our heritage walk around Georgetown! Yes, we walked, haha! It is so troublesome to drive on narrow and busy streets, not to say looking for car park! So the best transport is your foot or a bike!

There are actually few jetties here, located side by side with different “family name” which are Yeoh Jetty, Mixed Clan Jetty, Lee Jetty, Tan Jetty, Chew Jetty, Lin Jetty and Ong Jetty. Among all, Chew Jetty is the most happening jetty and always packed with tourists! Maybe because of the movie effect? Or because of the mural?

Jetty family :P

Chew Jetty was established in Mid 19th Century and there are around 75 units of house there. Origin of the ancestor is FuJian Province, China.

Chew Jetty :)

One of the scene (or more) for "Ais Kacang Puppy Love", a Malaysia Chinese movie :)

View from the jetty, it was a day after rain.

Spotted a hair salon there!

Souvenirs sold along the wooden pathway at Chew Jetty. Residents there run small business just in front of their houses, smart and so convenient LOL.

Used to be like this...

After years of outdoor and seaside exposure, the kids and boat are gone!

The sky is getting dark and we hopped to Gurney for dinner! Or more accurate is local food hunting LOL. Everything looks nice to eat, some is having long queue some more!

Asam laksa, chee cheong fan, popiah, white curry mee.

 Cendol, rojak, fried oyster, apom.

Baked squid, mua chi.

Everything is so nice! Especially the fried oyster, baked squid and mua chi!!!

Asam laksa and cendol are not as good as Penang Road (but still better than KL's standard :P). So the next post we are going to Penang Road!!! Cendol~ We are coming~~

Stay Tune :)
