SCKLM 2014 Race Report

12th of October 2014, it’s the day for Standard Chartered KL Marathon (SCKLM) 2014. This year, I’ve registered in the Honda Half Marathon category.

The 21km category started as early as 6am. Thanks to the convenience of LRT in collaboration of the event, I was able to make it to Dataran Merdeka on time. This is surely a good move for all the runners who wish for more travelling options.

6am, the kickoff of 21km category. It all started with a band performance and loud cheers along Jalan Raja Laut. It was inspiring to see many performers doing their part in the early morning to keep the running passion alive. It was a clear day on the route without haze and traffic in the KL city centre.

My running vest! Pride is my finish line!

The new 21km route covers several iconic landmarks of Malaysia, say The Twin Towers, Pavilion Shopping Mall, Parliament of Malaysia and the historical Kuala Lumpur KTM Building. Water station and 100 plus was placed in every 2km and 4km after the first 4km of race. I would say the water hydration was adequate and all the volunteers were doing their work ethically at the station. However the fruit station was not found as mentioned in the race guide.

The running route for half marathon.

At 830am, it was the final kilometre to go. Some passers-by were busy cheering up the runners from the pavement. Some runners had given it all they got to put on speed to the finishing line.

Last few metres to go!

Huge TV screening the actual situation of the finishing line.

Finally, I finished the course in 2 hours 40 minutes. It is not the best timing so far but it is going to be another achievement worth remembering. After collecting the race medal and refreshments, I left the crowd. With total of 35k participants, the crowd is really crazy.

The victory moment! :)

With all the sweat and pride!

This year, the event officials have introduced a whole new route to the SCKLM categories and this surely had offered a better city-viewing experience to all local and overseas runners. It was a great and funtastic running participation on Sunday morning in the month of October.
