34th River Kwai International Half Marathon (Year 2015)

At last, I am at the venue of the 34th edition of River Kwai International Half Marathon 2015, River Kwai Village Hotel. After an approximate 6 hours train ride from Bangkok and 20 mins motorbike riding from our Star Hill River Kwai hotel, we reached safely at the venue at 520am. It was raining on the Sunday morning and we felt uncomfortable with the wetness in body, but this doesn’t wash away the spirit of running on one of the most scenic route in Thailand. I’ve missed it last year and definitely not this time. According to the host, this year event has attracted more than 3300 participants from 35 countries.

The Oldest Half Marathon in Thailand..by Amazing Field

Race Venue: River Kwai Village Hotel

Two categories were introduced, half marathon (21.1 km) and mini marathon (10.55 km) and both started at 6am. Along the winding route, the runners were accompanied by the mystery yet amazing mountainous view found only in the outskirts of Thailand. Running in the rain was not an easy challenge, especially in the first 10 km of race where most are uphill course. Generous number of water & melon stations and volunteers en route ensure a safe and smooth running experience for all runners.

Race started at 6am...

Me facing the cam :]

I am glad to finish the run in 2 hour 18 minutes, the best timing for 21 km clocked so far. The rain proved not a thing in achieving my new personal best. Indeed the declining course in the second half of the race made a faster split compared to the first. Post run, all the runners were invited to enjoy free breakfast in the hotel cafe and 150 Baht was charged to each non-participant for the meal. It was a wonderful morning for a rich feast after long running.

Delighted runners at the finishing

Rilakuma runner...Cheers!

13rd September 2015, my first running to the oldest road race in the country is definitely a notable one. The scenic train journey travelling across Kanchanaburi, the Bridge over River Kwai and Nam Tok, Sai Yok form part of the breathtaking countrysides must-see in Thailand.

Rock and roll...
