Taiwan - High Speed Rail Experience (台湾高铁)

Saying goodbye to JiuFen (九份), our next destination is ChiaYi (嘉义). After consulting some locals, we decided to go back to TaiPei (台北) first and depart to ChiaYi (嘉义) via the high speed rail at TaiPei Main Station, which is the fastest way to reach the southern part of Taiwan.

From Wikipedia:Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) is a high-speed rail line that runs approximately 345km along the west coast of Taiwan, from the national capital TaiPei to the southern city of KaoHsiung (高雄). The line started its service on 5th January 2007, with trains running at a top speed of 300km/h.
Our ticket from TaiPei to ChiaYi. The ticket costs us TWD 1180 per
person but managed to bring us to ChiaYi in 1.5hours.

The seat is similar to seat in a flight where there is a desk attached
in front. There is space for your luggage and your legs too!
The best thing is…. You can eat in the train!
You can bring your own food, buy at the train station and even buy
inside the train!
We brought some lunch box at TaiPei Main Station before boarding. Having
lunch in the train made the 1.5hours past in a glimpse of eye.
Lunch box with generous portion! Rice served with pork chop, braised
egg, fried potato, some vegetables and also my favourite sauerkraut (fermented
finely chopped cabbage).
Another one is almost the same too, only that the green vege is replaced
with fermented olive and the portion is slightly smaller.
Got ourselves a bottled WuLong tea. Sneak peak of our next destination!
We had good experience with the high speed rail ride where the train
moves fast and smooth and with only several pit stops (time-saving). The space
is wide so you won’t feel congested and the surrounding is clean!
After a smooth journey, we reached ChiaYi High Speed Rail Station and
hopped onto the free shuttle bus which brought us to ChiaYi bus station.
ChiaYi bus station is located in the city centre while high speed rail
station is around half an hour journey from city centre. Keep the high speed
rail ticket well in order to get free ride of shuttle bus travelled to city
centre.
